The Cities of Love Young Directors Programs
In the film industry, the successful passing of knowledge from master to apprentice can take years of hard work and practice before its benefits start to be seen. Training on a film set is a priviledge, learning with a master is invaluable.
As we implemented it on Rio, I Love You, each future Cities of Love feature-film production will be also an educational program since it will integrate a Mentoring Program with the assignment to source and support the emergence of 10 young local directors. Each “apprentice” will then be attached to an established director involved in the City, I Love You movie, their “mentor”, and they will follow the entire creative process of a segment of that film until completion.
In some cases, a City, I Love You production will not be launched immediately and we will set up a yearly Young Directors Programs made of 12 short-films per year: 10 recently graduated directors, 2 local celebrities directing for the first time. These programs will be mentored by a different established director every year.
All the young directors involved in these education programs will be then given the opportunity to direct their own City, I Love You short-film, thus allowing us to bring together urban development and film education.
